A significant number are at various CASA locations in our area. They make lunches on Friday night and then deliver them on Sabbath morning. English, Spanish & French Bibles are also delivered with the lunches when available. Please read more about it
here. They are looking for volunteers the first and third Friday of the month to meet at the church 5pm to make the lunches and then to deliver them 8:30am Sabbath morning. Lord’s Lunch is a community service program sponsored by the Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Originally primarily a Youth activity, the program has grown to include various families as well as local SDA Pathfinder groups. The first time the Spencerville Youth participated was during an early “30 hour famine.” We made sandwiches, bagged muffins and bananas put it all in a bag on Friday night then first thing Sabbath morning we took it out to the hungry people some who were homeless and others that were at CASA of Maryland sites. We were so hungry from our fasting that we were ready to eat the cinnamon raisin bagels with turkey, cheese, mustard and relish!
Since those early outings, Lord’s Lunch has become a regular part of the Spencerville Church outreach ministry (over 5 years and counting). They meet the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month and prepare bag lunches Friday night in the Church kitchen, then Sabbath we meet back at 8:30, put the lunches together and distribute them.
The people we give food to are grateful and often request literature and Bibles. We need more Spanish and French speakers and Bible and literature in these languages, but we get along just fine with a smile and kind word in English so don't worry if you don't parlez francais or habla español.
If you would like to be a part of this ministry by participating in food prep and distribution or by picking up donations from Costco Friday’s please contact Daina Davidson at (301) 785-9188 or dainamdavidson@aol.com or Kevin Davidson at (301) 785-8996 or kevinmdavidson@aol.com or at their home at 301-774-1027.
Remember that Lord’s Lunch goes out the 1st and 3rd weekend of every month and they would love to have our help!
